Make one of these recipes in your kitchen for the softness revamp you never knew you needed.

Despite hair types being unique as a fingerprint, it's safe to say a unanimous hair goal might be a soft, nourished, and healthy mane. Yet many environmental factors, such as humidity and smog, can leave our strands dry, brittle, and definitely in need of help. If you didn't stock up on hair products while preparing to work from home, an equally effective natural remedy is to use extra virgin olive oil for hair restoration you never knew could come out of your kitchen.

The natural hair remedy originated among ancient Egyptians, who used the natural resource for its benefits in body care. Olive oil, especially extra virgin olive oil, is rich in a few key nutrients: vitamin A, which prevents aging, vitamin E, which helps with the circulation of the scalp and has antioxidant powers, and fatty acids, which promote hydration. If you are social distancing at home and looking for some fresh ways to practice self-care, see below for three ways to use extra virgin olive oil for hair, so you can emerge from this self-quarantine with more enviable strands than ever.

DIY Conditioner

Being rich in nutrients and with an oily consistency, extra virgin olive oil is an ideal natural balm for hair. In addition to having a detangling effect, it nourishes hair deeply, leaving it soft and shiny. To make an olive oil conditioner, heat a small bowl of oil in the microwave or over the stove for a few seconds. The temperature must be slightly warm, but not too hot. Gradually, spread the oil on all your hair, taking care to apply it strand by strand. If you have a dryer scalp or are looking to treat dandruff, you can also use extra virgin olive oil for hair's roots and scalp. Otherwise, proceed from mid-length. Leave for about 15 minutes and proceed with your usual shampoo routine.

DIY Restructuring Mask

Mix honey and extra virgin olive oil for hair rejuvenation via a restructuring mask. Both hyper-nutritious, these two ingredients must be mixed in a bowl in equal parts (3 tablespoons of oil, 3 tablespoons of honey). Before shampooing, apply the mixture from mid-length to the ends of your hair. Put on a shower cap and leave it on for half an hour, then proceed with your regular shampoo routine. Since this is a particularly oily mask, it may be necessary to do two or more rinses, but the soft, shiny result will be worth it.

Split Ends Treatment

Who knew you could use extra virgin olive oil for hair serum, too? As one final hack, apply olive oil as a treatment for split ends. Apply a few drops with your fingertips right on the tips of your hair, and let it set overnight. While this method does not replace getting a haircut, which is the ultimate treatment for damaged ends, extra virgin olive oil certainly strengthens the hair while providing a temporary solution. Think of it as the moisture equivalent to rocking grown-out roots.
