The fashion industry's game of musical chairs continues with yet another creative director departure.

After a highly successful five-year run, <a href="https://www.lofficielusa.com/fashion/who-is-pieter-mulier-new-creative-director-maison-alaia" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Pieter Mulier</a> has stepped down from the helm of Ala&iuml;a. Over the course of the years, Mulier saw plenty of highs in terms of positive critical reception and business success. With his unparalleled creative vision and intimate knowledge of the maison's archives and clientele, Mulier designed one hit collection after another.&nbsp;
On Jan. 30, Ala&iuml;a released a statement that confirmed that Mulier's time with the maison would be concluded with the Fall/Winter 2026 collection, to be presented during Paris Fashion Week in March 2026.&nbsp;
Mulier's next move hasn't been made public just yet, but if industry rumours are anything to go by, it's been widely speculated that his next era will see him <a href="https://www.lofficielusa.com/fashion/versace-next-creative-director-designers-in-talks-pieter-mulier-anthony-vaccarello" target="_blank" rel="noopener">at the helm of Versace</a>, which has been seeking a creative director since <a href="https://www.lofficielusa.com/fashion/dario-vitale-versace-leaving-exit-creative-director" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Dario Vitale's departure</a> in December 2025&mdash;shortly after the Italian label was acquired by the Prada Group.&nbsp;
Ala&iuml;a has not yet announced Mulier's successor.&nbsp;
&ldquo;The studio will ensure continuity in the interim period until a creative organization is confirmed,&rdquo; the statement confirmed, and wished Mulier &ldquo;every success in his future endeavors; he will always remain part of the Ala&iuml;a family.&rdquo;

Since Mulier joined the label, the designer has been credited with reshaping the brand for the contemporary client. Mulier drew inspiration from founder Azzedine Ala&iuml;a's conceptions on fashion and reinvented them, transforming the label's emblematic visual codes into a body of works that proved alluringly modern.&nbsp;
Defined by his signature sculptural designs and powerful, feminine-forward aesthetics, Mulier's most famous creations for Ala&iuml;a skew from mesh ballet flats to rounded, experimental couture gowns, illustrating his sartorial range and penchant for pushing boundaries. Beyond the commercial success of his works, Mulier has surely cemented his legacy as one of the&nbsp;visionary designers of the 21st century&mdash;and now, will continue to do so wherever he moves next.&nbsp;
