We've been waiting on this news for a long time now. Following her music videos featuring Tessa Thompson asa love interest, speculations of Monáe's bisexuality and her relationship with Thompson start to circle around, though she never gave any comments on the matter.
Yesterday, the Make Me Feel singer finally adressed the rumors and came out as pansexual (just a day before her album Dirty Computer is released). In a new cover story by Rolling Stone, the pop artist explained that she identifies with pansexuality, a term defined as attraction to people regardless of gender. "Being a black queer woman in America," said Monáe. "Someone who has been in relationships with both men and women — I consider myself to be a free-ass motherfucker."
Her sexuality isn't the only thing she came out with this late week. Today, she released her third studio album titled Dirty Computer, which includes collaborations with Pharell, Zoë Kravitz, and Grimes. Accompanying the album, the pop artist (as promised) released a 50-minute "emotion" picture, which could very much be a Black Mirror episode soundtracked by every song in her new album. Blessed.
Keep doing you, Monáe. We dig it.
