Schiaparelli Haute Couture Spring 2018
Schiaparelli just presented its Spring 2018 collection, inspired by the meeting of African and European cultures, along with visual references from imaginary kingdoms. The result were tulle and feathered dresses, and transparent knits that took on a life of their own. Below, our show notes for the collection.
Ellery Couture Spring 2018
Ellery had a major first this season. The Australian brand with a cult following presented its first couture show alongside a pre-fall ready-to-wear collection. It was the second time the line had presented in Paris, and suiting, chunky capes and draped dresses dominated the runway—plus, some new silhouettes that might take the top tier place of “most wanted” in lieu of the brand’s signature wide flare trousers. Here, our show notes for the collection.
Christian Dior Haute Couture Spring 2018
Dior’s latest couture show was a surrealist affair. Fishnets stockings were paired over sandals, dresses were veiled by peacock feathers and structure was created by braided horsehair—all under the lights of the Rodin Museum in Paris. Below, our show notes on the collection.
Givenchy Couture Spring 2018
Clare Waight Keller (formerly of Chloe) just debuted her very first couture collection for Givenchy in Paris. The British designer’s moonlit show was comprised of dark black and blue gowns (often paired with sharply tailored blazers both long and short) embellished with feathers and crystals and some menswear options, too. Below, our show notes for the collection.
Three Designers on Why Couture Is Important
As Spring 2018 couture week comes to an end, three different designers discuss the reasons why, sometimes couture is better than the traditional ready-to-wear.
Azzaro Couture Spring 2018
Maxime Simoëns presented his second collection for Azzaro, the legendary French fashion house in Paris during couture week. True to the brand’s celebrity following of the past (Sophia Loren, Raquel Welch and Marisa Berenson), his pieces were all about glamour. Think: high-shine metallic blazers for men, purple feather boa jackets, and sequined pants. Below, our show notes on the collection.
